Here are some Japanese songs & games that we learn in music class in 2nd Grade
at Green's Farms School!

WATERWHEEL

There is a water wheel

By the riverside

“Gitchon, Gitchon”

Goes ‘round all day

Take your partner and quickly run away

Anyone without a partner will be it

clap & sing: 1-2-3

(freeze and wait for the gong…then find a partner)

Wildbird

Round, round the wildbird flies.

Poor little bird in a cage – don’t cry!

Hide your eyes and soon you’ll be

With the wildbirds flying free.

Who’s standing back of you,

Can you say?

Child behind the “caged bird” sings alone: Ushi-rono-shomen-dare!

Translation: “If you guess my name, you can fly away”

KIRA KIRA BO SHI

To the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”

Kira, kira hi-ka-ru

O-so-ra-no ho-shi-yo

Ma-ba-ta-ki she-te-wa

Mi-n-na-wo mi-te-ru

Kira, kira hi-ka-ru

O-so-ra-no ho-shi-yo

Jan Ken Pon!

A Japanese version of “Rock, Paper, Scissors”

Played with hands behind back until final line.
